Why Fitness
Just when you started to throw in the towel
Why does fitness matter?
Being consistent with physical activity improves our endurance and our V02 max(the amount of oxygen our body uses during exercise). It can help strengthen our muscles, bones, joints, internal body functions and even improve our mental health. Premature mortality, heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes may be reduced.
According to Cold Spring Harbor Perspectives in Medicine, research has shown that the onset of 40 chronic conditions/diseases can be delayed. To name a few: constipation, immunity, bone fractures/falls, depression and anxiety, obesity, pain. To see a complete list, view table 1.
Why do you need resistance training?
When you use force to push against, push down, lift, or bring an object toward us (such as bench pressing, lunges, tricep dips, seated rows, leg press, and so many more), you’re building strength which can help prevent injury, including maintaining or improving both flexibility in joints.
Studies show that a 20–40% increase in strength may occur during the first weeks of training. Strength training, a.ka. resistance training prevents the loss of muscle mass and muscle function and may help promote bone development. An increase in muscle mass raises your metabolism, which is related to burning more calories. Resistance training is like medicine.
Don’t forget to get an adequate supply of protein from food or other sources. Protein is critical in maintaining optimal health, growth, development, and function throughout life.
Why should you have a fitness routine?
A good routine can help you plan things better and may even assist with becoming a healthier organizer – meaning structure and fewer decisions can aid in keeping an activity repetitive. Still, unfortunately, today, most of us choose actions that are quicker, easier, and more fun. Because of this, our health and our bodies become less of a priority. We have to train or re-train our minds to know and believe that fitness can be quick, easy, and fun.
Many of the beneficial effects of exercise training, from endurance and resistance activity, diminish within two weeks if physical activity is substantially reduced. Training effects disappear within 2 to 8 months if physical activity is not resumed so if you don’t use it, you lose it.
Why do you need to keep track of my fitness goals?
Tracking your goals in a 12-Week Food Journal and Fitness Tracker could help you see how you’ve improved over time. It may help you remain focused on your goals and give you a sense of accomplishment. With so much going on in our lives and our minds, sometimes we vaguely remember everything that happened yesterday or the day before, so physically seeing things written down can help remind us and keep us focused. Tracking your future goals may allow you to visualize the outcome giving you something to look forward to.
